Your Clear-Speech Baseline
What this lesson changes, and why it works.
1.Lesson introduction
Before you change anything about the way you speak, it helps to know where you are starting. This lesson is deliberately back to front: you record first, before any teaching, so the sample captures how you already speak rather than how well you can copy a trainer. Record the paragraph in the next section before you read on or play anything else. After that comes the teaching, and then you will come back and listen to your own recording properly. You are not looking for mistakes — you are collecting information. Keep this recording; you will compare it with a new one in Lesson 15.
2.Learning objectives
- Record a clean baseline sample before any instruction can influence it
- Listen back using seven specific, non-judgemental checkpoints
- Describe your own clarity in plain language instead of vague impressions
- Set one focus area for the rest of the course
4.Narrated audio lesson
Welcome
Lesson 1: Your Clear-Speech Baseline
Welcome to lesson 1, Your Clear-Speech Baseline.
5.How it works
Clarity: Could a stranger catch every word first time, without asking you to repeat?
- 1Sit or stand tall with your shoulders low and loose.
- 2Breathe in gently through the nose for four counts.
- 3Let the air out slowly on a quiet 'ahh' for six counts. Repeat three times.
- 4Read the first sentence of the script once, silently, so your eyes know the road.
The seven baseline checkpoints
Clarity, final sounds, pace, volume, pauses, filler words, expression. These are the same seven you rate after every recording. Review one at a time, not all at once.
